Derivative products of heroin and cocaine include crack cocaine, freebase cocaine, speedball and similar products. The use of either heroin or cocaine greatly leads to the usage of the other drug; cocaine addicts are 15 times more likely to also be addicted to heroin.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) indicates that 81,230 people died of overdose deaths from June 2019 through May 2020, an 18.2% increase from the previous year. Synthetic opioids were the primary driver of the increase in overdoses, followed by overdose deaths involving cocaine.
